This month the AP has continued their studies with their eyes on the finish line! In literature, they began their 5th and final novel of the year, The Grapes of Wrath. They had a ‘paint and read-aloud' session with Ms.Sarah using all recycled material for their canvases and pallets to reflect on the Joad’s hardships and resourcefulness during the Great Depression.
In science, the AP finished their Astronomy unit and began their Ecology unit in preparation for their Marine Ecology Beach trip at the end of the month. They will be studying how varying biomes and humans affect ecological cycles like the Carbon Cycle, Water Cycle and Nitrogen Cycles in addition to other concepts. We are looking forward to our interactive field trip to the Florida Oceanographic Society headquarters in Stuart, Florida.
In math, the students just finished a numeracy and personal finance project called “My Real Life”. They randomly chose a profession, marital status, a number of children and throw themselves into a real-life scenario at age 40. They are faced with a number of financial obstacles to overcome given their annual household income, such as paying bills and taxes as well as planning savings and discretionary income!
